Managing Negative Thoughts-Part 1

Believe me when I say that I know a thing or two about managing negative thoughts! When I say negative thoughts, I’m not referring to being pessimistic. I’m also not referring to the deep and difficult emotions associated with loss,…

Scriptures for Anxiety

I’m no stranger to struggles with anxiety. When we are off-balance (and off-balance can mean a lot of things–stressed, overwhelmed, too busy, sick, taking care of someone sick, adjusting to change, and all kinds of other things) each of us…

This little love is the brightest sunshine on a cl This little love is the brightest sunshine on a cloudy day 💕 She is also 497 words a minute and a lot of very confident opinions, but I guess that’s what we get for raising her in a home that isn’t running low on words or thoughts 😂

I love dressing Lily in the cutest things while she’ll still let me and I’ve been so pleased with these sweet dresses from @bunchofhappiness19. Emily, the owner, is so sweet and I love that her small shop offers moms the chance to purchase special clothes at a very affordable price point. Because I don’t think you should have to have a ton of money to be able to dress your child in things you love, if that’s something you enjoy.

Swipe to see some of our favorites and swipe to the end to see an absolutely lovely dress available for pre-order now. I think it would be so sweet for Easter!

For 10 long months I’ve been a therapist during For 10 long months I’ve been a therapist during a pandemic. I didn’t take a special class for this. There is no special training. And like so many others, I’m very, very tired.

I’m tired for my clients. I’m tired of people losing their loved ones over and over and over again. I’m tired of people fighting over masks. I’m tired of weighing out the risk of every single thing. I bet you are too.

And so today I got a covid vaccine. I’ll be honest—there’s a bit of a hypochondriac in me. I’m almost always a little anxious in any medical setting for no real reason. I don’t like shots.

But. I trust my doctors. I trust them enough to care for us when we’re sick or when something scary happens. I trusted one to deliver Lily safely into the world and I would trust her with my literal life. And I trust my medical friends. God has given them a gift to care for the sick and they know what they’re doing. When something is wrong, I call them first.

And so, when it was time to decide if I’d get this vaccine, I didn’t check to see what my Facebook friends had to say. I didn’t think too much about what “I heard” or what “people” said. I prayed. And I checked with the people that I’ve known and trusted for years, who also pray and trust God themselves. Because they know some real things about this.

I’m definitely not here to debate a vaccine. There’s plenty of debate out there already and I have no desire to add to it. But this is something that there’s a lot of anxiety surrounding and I do have a big desire to reduce anxiety. So if you’re anxious about the vaccine, or have questions, perhaps checking with the doctors and medical friends that you’ve trusted for years is a great place to start-not Facebook.

I’m linking an interview my church did with Dr. Justin Qualls in my bio. Dr. Qualls is a very respected doctor and person of faith in my church. He gives some fantastic information on a lot of the questions you might have about the vaccine. His words are so calming and really helped me find a lot of peace with my decision. I hope they help you too:)

This is one of the cutest outfits Lily has ever worn and it will be available on major sale during the @graceandjameskids warehouse sale tomorrow (the sweater isn’t on sale but it’s still a great price!).

Sometimes I forget that I’m technically a small business owner myself, but I’ll certainly never forget the days of having a dream and going for it with all I had. I love to encourage anyone on that same path and @graceandjameskids is a small business I’m so proud to support.

I linked some of my favorite sale items in the Like To Know It app, because surprise, I’ve had this ability for 9 months and haven’t used it 🙈 https://ltk.app.link/a3Octyve3cb #liketoknowit #liketkit #liketoknowitfamily
I love the book Tomorrow I’ll Be Brave by Jessic I love the book Tomorrow I’ll Be Brave by Jessica Hische. I’ve read it for awhile with my younger clients and now I read it with Lily. It’s simple enough for small children and offers the chance to have good conversations about what it really means to be brave, adventurous, strong, smart, curious, creative, and confident-all things I want for my daughter, my clients, and for myself.

As adults, I think it’s pretty normal for us to tell kids “you need to be nice” over and over again. Because, well, we want to raise kind children!

But I want to make sure I don’t forget to teach Lily about these other important qualities too. I want her to be curious and ask questions, to be brave enough to take risks, to be strong and stand for things that are right, and to be absolutely confident in who God has created her to be.

This book is a treasure. Let me know if you check it out!

We only get snow maybe once every five years or so in MS, so it’s truly a magical day when we do. ✨Mental Health Monday-Take A News Break✨ Last ✨Mental Health Monday-Take A News Break✨

Last week was quite the week in our nation. All of us are feeling a lot of different emotions and rightly so. And I just want to encourage you to take a news break at some point.

I very much understand the desire to stay informed. I want to stay informed myself. But a 24 hour news cycle isn’t mentally healthy for anyone.

And while you’re at it, perhaps consider taking a break from social media, or setting limits for yourself. Reading what every single person thinks about every single thing constantly isn’t mentally healthy for anyone. The weight of every opinion on earth is not something any person was ever meant to carry.

Take a break. Take a walk. Check on your friends. Breathe the fresh air. Read a book. Watch a good show. Drink water. Eat good food. Be with the people you love.

And when you’re ready, come back and check in on the news. But consider how you might balance that with the real, good things around you. Because those are some of the things that can help us stay grounded right now.

*Taking a news break doesn’t mean you stop caring about the things going on in our country, not at all.
✨Simple Daily Devotionals✨ Over the past seve ✨Simple Daily Devotionals✨

Over the past several years I’ve worked hard on building a daily habit of spending time in scripture and prayer. Last year, when it seemed like nearly everything else was so quickly taken away, this routine remained. And though I struggled like everyone else did in 2020, day by day God’s word gave me strength for the day and reminded me that his power is made perfect in my weakness.

Today I’m sharing a collection of simple daily devotionals. I don’t call them simple because they’re simple in value, but rather because I think these will seem doable for anyone looking to get started with making scripture reading a habit. I think those who have studied God’s word for a long time will enjoy these as well. You can swipe to see a few.

I linked each of these and a few more on my blog. You can find these and more of my thoughts on this at the link in my bio under Visit Blog 💕

*I’d love for you to comment with a devotional or study you’ve enjoyed. I’d love to share more options again in the future!
A few days ago I shared a giveaway of the books I A few days ago I shared a giveaway of the books I most commonly recommend to my clients in therapy. It’s been quite the week since then.

Unfortunately, these books don’t contain magic answers to the problems in this country or in our lives. I wish they did! But in a time when the things that we can’t control seem so overwhelming, these books provide some great insight into the things that we CAN control.

Ill share a bit about why I love each of these in my stories. See my original post from a few days ago if you’d like to enter. Giveaway closes at midnight tonight 💕
