"Out of the stump of David's family will grow a shoot--yes, a new branch bearing fruit from the old root...In that day the heir to David's throne will be a banner of salvation to all the world. The nations will rally to him, and the land where he lives will be a glorious place." Isaiah 11:1, 10
I didn't grow up in a denomination that celebrates Advent. I don't think I'd even heard the word until I was well into my 20s, so I'm FAR from an Advent expert.
But several years ago I read The Greatest Gift, Unwrapping the Full Love Story of Christmas by Ann Voskamp. And I realized that I never again wanted to miss out on truly slowing down and reflecting on the anticipation of a savior being born, just as we in the Christian faith anticipate Him coming again and making every wrong thing in this world right.
I know I won't do this if I don't make room in my heart, room in my schedule, and plan out what materials I will use. I'm so happy to share twelve different advent/Christmas devotionals that you might enjoy. I do want to give the disclaimer that I haven't read every word of every single one of these, but each one I haven't personally completed was recommended to me by a person I trust or the book is brand new and comes from a reputable source. You decide what is right for you, but I do feel good about each of these.
Some of these are lighter, while some go more in depth. I encourage you to read reviews to see which one feels like a good fit for you right now. But then just pick one--it doesn't have to be one of these, it can certainly be something else. But don't want until December 1st has snuck up on you. Because I truly think we could all use a time of slowing down and reflecting on the true wonder of this season like never before.
